Public debt in Portugal falls below 270 billion in January

Portugal recorded a public debt of 269.8 billion euros in January this year, which represents a fall of 600 million euros compared to December last year.

Portuguese public debt from the perspective of Maastricht, the one that interests Brussels, fell by 600 million euros to 269.8 billion in January this year, thus interrupting the increases recorded in the last months of the previous year.

According to Banco de Portugal, "this decrease essentially reflected amortizations of debt securities, in the amount of 0.3 billion euros, and the reduction in deposit liabilities in the amount of 0.2 billion", according to a statement.
