Portuguese economy is ready to respond to external customers

28/09/2020

The Secretary of State for Internationalization, Eurico Brilhante Dias, said today in Lousã, that the Portuguese economy is overcoming the first phase of the covid-19 pandemic and prepared to respond to requests from external customers.

"Exports are falling compared to last year, with the goods sector performing better than the services sector, clearly recovering to patterns similar to 2019, where the difference in July was only 7% for July 2019 ", said the government official, at the end of a visit to the company J. Carranca Redondo, which produces Licor Beirão in the district of Coimbra.

For the Secretary of State for Internationalization, who ended in Lousã a two-day trip to the districts of Porto and Coimbra, under the 'Portugal Open for Business' initiative, "a 7% drop would always be too much, but at this point it is already recovery ".

According to Eurico Brilhante Dias, there are good expectations in relation to August and September, meanwhile that August "was already a month with less holidays and therefore, the level of production and response was higher even than months of the other years".

The government official did not hide that the service sector in tourism and air transport continues to face many difficulties due to "very restricted mobility".
