Portugal holds record of tax burden at 34.8% of GDP

The tax burden in Portugal remained at 34.8% of gross domestic product (GDP) in 2019, the same figure calculated by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in the previous year

In turn, the OECD average decreased 0.1 percentage points from 33.9% to 33.8%, between 2018 and 2019, indicates the annual report on tax revenues obtained by the economies that belong to this organization, for 2020 which was released this Thursday, December 3rd.

The current tax burden is the highest ever in Portugal instead of 2009, the year in which this figure was 29.9% of GDP, the lowest in almost 20 twenty.
