Foreign investment in Portugal to reach a record in 2021

Despite the pandemic, AICEP already reports an increase in contracted investment that puts this indicator above the overall value recorded in 2019, when it had reached a record. For the agency's president, this result allows for a renewed ambition in the next investment cycles.

The Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade of Portugal (AICEP) announced this Monday that, by October of this year, the record annual value of contracted investment in Portugal, which related to 2019 has already been surpassed.

The agency reports that under PT2020, the provisional values until October this year reach 1,233 million euros, which already exceeds the record value recorded until this year, which was 1,172 million euros in 2019.

The current year also saw 30 new clients operating in Portugal, a number that is close to the maximum recorded in 2019, which was 33, and allows the agency to project that this record will also be surpassed in 2021.

This resilience allows the country to look to the coming years with a strengthened ambition, since "this investment cycle is won". For the president of AICEP, the country's ability to maintain its competitiveness in the face of the difficulties created by the pandemic puts Portugal in a privileged position for the coming years, since "this is a relative game", where the important thing is to maintain the advantage over other exporting economies.
