The budget for wine promotion support contest got increased
The Ministry of Agriculture will increase by four million euros the EU budget allocation for projects submitted under the Contest to support the promotion of wines in third country markets.
In a statement, the Ministry said that this community measure to support the promotion of wines, applied by Portugal as part of the national program to support the wine sector, accounted for the year 2021 an investment intention higher than the allocation of the Notice of the Competition. In this sense, and in order to ensure the eligibility of the promotion actions of the applications submitted, the Community allocation was increased from six million to ten million euros.
For the Minister of Agriculture, Maria do Céu Antunes, "the promotion of Portugal's wines in third country markets has been fundamental to the positive performance of national exports, including in the context of the pandemic, and the performance of certified wine exports in the month of April, according to the latest data from INE, should be highlighted."
The month of April 2021 registered, similarly to the month of March, a positive behavior for national exports in volume, value and average price, concluding the month with +28.6%, +31.4% and +2.2% respectively. Compared to April 2020, Portugal recorded an increase of 27.6% in volume, 30.7% in value and 2.4% in average price.
The markets of the United States, France and Germany were those that contributed most to the positive impact. Also noteworthy was the performance in the markets of Canada, Belgium, the Netherlands and Switzerland, which recorded growth in sales, in value and in average price.
